Baseball Game Preview: Highland Hawks vs. Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks

The Highland Hawks will square off against the Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Highland will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Highland barely beat Potomac School the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hawks never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Wednesday. Considering the Hawks have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Matthew McCauley looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Danny Farrell was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Justin Summers, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Potomac School only posted an OBP of .208.

Meanwhile, Atlantic Shores Christian faced Greenbrier Christian Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Seahawks narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Gators 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Seahawks have posted against the Gators since April 28, 2023.

Highland pushed their record up to 23-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Atlantic Shores Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.
