Softball Game Preview: Avon Eagles vs. Elyria Pioneers

The Avon Eagles will head out to challenge the Elyria Pioneers at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Avon has three straight wins, Elyria has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Avon didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over North on Saturday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Elyria lost 14-5 to Midview on Wednesday.

Morgan Palos was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alliyah Alberto, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Elyria's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Avon, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.

Avon took their win against Elyria when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 9-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
