Football Game Preview: Riverside Rangers vs. Dumas Demons

The Riverside Rangers will face off against the Dumas Demons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Riverside took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They claimed a resounding 52-7 win over Fabens. The victory continues a trend for the Rangers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.

Carlos Rojas III continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 215 yards and three scores on only ten carries, while also throwing for 84 yards and one TD on only five passes. His longest rush was for an impressive 58 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Derek Armendariz was another key player, rushing for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Riverside was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 328 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 183 rushing yards in 13 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 16 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Sanzon Alba, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Dumas' strategy against Pampa on Friday. The Demons' defense stepped up to hand the Harvesters a 41-0 shutout. Given the Demons' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Harvesters are ranked 927th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Riverside's record now sits at 8-2. As for Dumas, their record is now 7-3.
