Softball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Willcox's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

While Willcox's win against Camp Verde wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Willcox narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Camp Verde 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Willcox has posted since March 27th.

Alyssa Gonzalez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on 15 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Karlie St Clair, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Nataly Thompson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Willcox is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.4 runs over those games. As for Camp Verde, their loss dropped their record down to 17-12.

As of now, neither Willcox nor Camp Verde have any future games scheduled.
