Softball Recap: St. Martin's Episcopal Drops Highest Score of Season Against East Jefferson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Martin's Episcopal). They put the hurt on the East Jefferson Warriors with a sharp 21-1 win on Wednesday. That's more bragging rights for the Saints, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Gianna Mandella made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Eliza Didriksen was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophie Miller, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

The victory made it two in a row for St. Martin's Episcopal and bumps their season record up to 2-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-5 Crescent City Christian and 1-4 East Jefferson. As for East Jefferson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, St. Martin's Episcopal will face off against West St. John at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for East Jefferson, they will take on Crescent City Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
