Basketball Recap: Downey Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Solomon Paris and Andrew Miller

Downey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Turlock Bulldogs, falling 73-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Knights have suffered against the Bulldogs since February 11, 2022.

Downey's loss came despite strong showings from Andrew Miller and Solomon Paris. Miller posted 12 points and six boards, while Paris had 11 points and six rebounds. Those six boards gave Miller a new career-high. Amelio Cardoso was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, Downey was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. This was only their 14th loss (out of 17 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Downey's defeat dropped their record down to 3-21. As for Turlock, their victory bumped their record up to 11-14.

Looking ahead, Downey will be playing in front of their home fans against Modesto at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Downey is facing Modesto at the right time seeing as Modesto is stuck on a 21-game losing streak. As for Turlock, they will head out on the road to face off against Pitman at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pitman knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Turlock likes a good challenge.
