Volleyball Recap: Calexico Now 18-3 over Last 21 Games

It's playoff time, and Calexico had no trouble coming through when it counted. They skirted past the Morse Tigers 3-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-0 back in February.

Calexico was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (105-99), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 25-21, 18-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-12.

Leading Calexico to victory were Gerardo Diaz and Jose Pablo Reyna. Diaz had 44 digs and three aces, while Reyna had 14 digs, five kills, and three aces. The dominant performance also gave Reyna a new career-high in assists (51).

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Miguel Cobian, who had 21 kills, seven digs, three blocks, and three aces. Another player making a difference was Jhiovanni Lacosta, who had seven digs, two aces, and one block.

Calexico has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 21 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season. As for Morse, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-17.

Coming up, Calexico will challenge Mater Dei Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. Morse does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
