Softball Game Preview: Pittsfield Panthers vs. Nute Rams

Pittsfield has gone a perfect 4-0 against Nute recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Panthers will square off against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Pittsfield will be strutting in after a win while Nute will be coming in after a defeat.

Pittsfield had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Farmington on Friday. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers an 18-0 shutout. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Alex Penney made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Penney was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Pittsfield got a massive performance out of Carly Griffin, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs Griffin has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alivia Lavigne, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Nute was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Newmarket, falling 25-7.

Nute's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Pittsfield, their record is now 2-0.

Everything went Pittsfield's way against Nute when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Pittsfield made off with a 14-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
