Basketball Preview: Yukon Millers vs. Deer Creek Antlers
The Yukon Millers will head out to face off against the Deer Creek Antlers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Yukon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season.
Yukon is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Coweta just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 42-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Millers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Tigers are ranked 27th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Addison Pivniska, who posted 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenlea Jefferson, who scored nine points and three steals.
Meanwhile, Deer Creek made easy work of Ponca City on Saturday and carried off a 61-37 victory. The Antlers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 24 points or more this season.
Deer Creek's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Yukon, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
Yukon came up short against Deer Creek in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 50-41. Can Yukon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
