Softball Game Preview: Geneva County Bulldogs vs. Poplar Springs Atomics

The Geneva County Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Poplar Springs Atomics at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Geneva County saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They came up short against Ariton, falling 14-4. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Geneva County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addie Mae Habbard, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Poplar Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They lost 20-6 to Rutherford.

Natalee Smith and Marissa Bollon did some serious damage despite the final result: Smith scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Bollon scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Abby Duffell, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Poplar Springs' loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Geneva County, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Geneva County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Poplar Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Geneva County took their win against Poplar Springs in their previous matchup last Friday by a conclusive 17-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
