Basketball Recap: Caston Comes Up Short

Caston was the 45-31 winner over Carroll when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Caston Comets fell just short of the Carroll Cougars by a score of 42-40 on Tuesday. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Caston saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Madisyn Douglass posted 18 points in addition to six boards and four steals. That was a full 45% of Caston's points, marking the 18th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Grace Colvin was another key player, putting up nine points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Caston smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Leading Carroll to victory were Eliza Rinehart and Jillian Salts. Rinehart went 5 of 7 on her way to 13 points and seven rebounds, while Salts scored nine points and eight boards. Salts is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last seven games she's played.

Caston's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Carroll, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-6.

Caston didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 30-25 loss against DeMotte Christian on the 30th. Carroll has also already played their next game, a 67-35 defeat against Lafayette Jefferson on the 30th.
