Softball Recap: Strasburg Takes a Loss

After flying high against Rappahannock County last Tuesday, Strasburg came back down to earth. The Rams fell just short of the Page County Panthers by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Rams have suffered against the Panthers since April 21, 2023.

Ava Mayhew spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 18 Ks. Those 18 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Strasburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karaline Brill, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Strasburg's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Page County, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3.

Strasburg and Page County should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Rams will face off against Luray at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (92 vs. 244). Meanwhile, Page County (ranked 53rd) will meet Stonewall Jackson (ranked 213th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
