Baseball Game Preview: Canisius Crusaders vs. McQuaid Jesuit Knights

Canisius is 2-8 against McQuaid Jesuit since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Crusaders will welcome the Knights at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Canisius took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Frontier, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Crusaders had just enough and edged out the Falcons 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Crusaders have posted since April 14, 2025.

Nate Smith looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luke Golembewski, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025. David Barczak was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McQuaid Jesuit). They were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over Saratoga Springs on Saturday. Considering the Knights have won four games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

McQuaid Jesuit's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Canisius, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
