The Somerset Academy Panthers will take on the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack in a tournament on Saturday. Somerset Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Schoolhouse Prep will be coming in after a defeat.
Somerset Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Academy for Innovative Education on Thursday as Somerset Academy made off with a 16-3 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Kiera Carbone made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Carbone was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Somerset Academy let Kelsey Gonzalez and Katie Bailey run wild. Gonzalez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Bailey scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That triple was Gonzalez's first of the season. Avery Casteel was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Somerset Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Schoolhouse Prep unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 8-4 to Stoneman Douglas.
Danna Viera made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Angelly Benitez, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
Schoolhouse Prep's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Somerset Academy, their record now sits at 3-4.
Schoolhouse Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Somerset Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game.
