Volleyball Recap: South El Monte Comes Up Short

South El Monte lost against Gabrielino back in March, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. South El Monte came up short against Gabrielino, falling 3-0. South El Monte has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

South El Monte was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-13, 25-24.

Christian Madrid paced South El Monte's offense, picking up eight kills. Madrid got some help from Johnson Phan and his 22 assists. Finally, Elijah Lopez kept South El Monte's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

South El Monte's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Gabrielino, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season.

South El Monte will square off against Marshall at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Gabrielino, they will face off against Rosemead at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
