Softball Game Preview: Oak Grove Grizzlies vs. Central Davidson Spartans

Oak Grove has won five straight games at home, while Central Davidson has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Grizzlies will host the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Oak Grove will be strutting in after a victory while Central Davidson will be coming in after a defeat.

Oak Grove's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Montgomery Central. The Grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Timberwolves recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Isabelle Lawrence made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Lawrence was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Harper Sugg, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Central Davidson fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against North Davidson on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Black Knights by a score of 2-1. The Spartans have struggled against the Black Knights recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Oak Grove's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Central Davidson, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

Oak Grove was able to grind out a solid win over Central Davidson in their previous meeting on April 1st, winning 4-0. Will the Grizzlies repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
