Basketball Recap: Jabin Barnes Key Part of Team Effort in Tigers Win

Yorktown hadn't done well against Muncie Central recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Yorktown Tigers came out on top against the Muncie Central Bearcats by a score of 63-50. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Yorktown got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jabin Barnes out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. Barnes is becoming a predictor of Yorktown's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is undefeated (and 3-14 when he doesn't). Mason Trammell was another key player, going 6-for-9 to rack up 19 points.

Yorktown was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They racked up six more assists than Muncie Central's also-impressive total of ten.

Muncie Central lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Landen Wells, who went 6-for-11 en route to 15 points. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Terry Miles, who posted ten points and eight rebounds.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 6-14. As for Muncie Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.

Looking ahead, Yorktown will host Wapahani at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Muncie Central, they will venture away from home to take on Pendleton Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Pendleton Heights is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.
