Preview: Honey Grove Warriors vs. Whitewright Tigers
The Honey Grove Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Whitewright Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Honey Grove has seven straight victories, the Tigers have four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Honey Grove stacked a 15th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 53-29 margin over Bland. Given Honey Grove's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 389th, while the Tigers are ranked 1135th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Whitewright came up short against the Wolves on Tuesday and fell 39-29.
Honey Grove pushed their record up to 23-4 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 32.2 points. As for Whitewright, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Honey Grove against the Tigers when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 81-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Honey Grove since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
