Basketball Recap: Apollo Takes a Loss

Apollo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 78-30 loss at the hands of the Pinnacle Pioneers. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 164th, while the Pioneers are ranked 11th).

Leading Pinnacle to victory were Norah Moo and Claire Carnal. Moo dropped a double-double on 26 points and 19 rebounds, while Carnal went 8 of 16 on her way to 25 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Carnal a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Fraley, who posted six points in addition to seven assists and seven boards.

Apollo's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Pinnacle, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-4.

Apollo will square off against Boulder Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pinnacle, they will venture away from home to face off against Basha at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pinnacle has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
