Baseball Recap: Brown County Comes Up Short

Brown County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They came up short against the Greencastle Tiger Cubs, falling 18-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 9-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Barrett Lasley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Justin Terril also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Greencastle, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-3. Considering they have won 11 matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Greencastle's side, Dillion Hughes made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Hughes a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Greencastle got a massive performance out of Nathan Sutherlin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Bryton Gregg, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brown County will face off against North Daviess at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Greencastle, they will take on Crawfordsville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
