Softball Game Preview: James Island Trojans vs. Berkeley Stags

The James Island Trojans will host the Berkeley Stags at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. James Island is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

On Wednesday, James Island came up short against West Ashley and fell 5-1. The game marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Berkeley). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Lucy Beckham a 15-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Stags have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Berkeley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. James Island's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

James Island might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Berkeley in their previous matchup back in March of 2019. Can James Island avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
