Basketball Recap: Bear River Comes Up Short

Bear River managed to keep up with Oakmont until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Bear River Bruins came up short against the Oakmont Vikings, falling 61-41. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 70-60 back in January.

Loss or not, Bear River got some senior leadership from Dylan Donley and Luke Jeffers. Donley made all 6 shots he took racking up 14 points, while Jeffers posted seven points in addition to 15 boards and five assists. Donley also brought in his first field goal percentage of the season. Lucas Reed also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Leading Oakmont to victory were Aldin Bubic and Ocean Munoz. Bubic dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds, while Munoz went 6 for 12 to rack up 18 points. Thanks to that strong game, Bubic now owns an excellent 46% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Norman Woods, who put up five points and five boards.

Bear River's defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Oakmont, the win also got them back to even at 13-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bear River will square off against Wheatland at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bear River is facing Wheatland at the right time seeing as Wheatland is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Oakmont, they will welcome Colfax at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Oakmont knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Colfax likes a good challenge.
