Basketball Recap: Ben Arnold's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vista Ridge over Doherty

Vista Ridge lost against Doherty back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Vista Ridge Wolves lost 73-53 to the Doherty Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while the Spartans are ranked 35th).

Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ben Arnold, who posted 12 points and three steals. Zay Thurman was another key player, putting up 12 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Elijah Mack continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Doherty, dropping a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Mack is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gavin Gilbert, who made all 5 shots he took to post 12 points and four steals.

Vista Ridge's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Doherty, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Looking ahead, Vista Ridge will take on Rampart at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Doherty, they will square off against Pine Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Doherty is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.2 points per game this season.
