Argyle, Knappa begin 2019 season with longest high school baseball win streaks

Argyle (Texas) and Knappa (Astoria, Ore.) began the 2019 baseball season tied with the longest win streaks in the nation, but only one of them currently holds that distinction.



37 — Argyle (Texas)
The Eagles went 37-0 during the 2018 season and ended up as the No. 1 team in the nation, according to the MaxPreps Top 25 Rankings. Argyle opened the 2019 season with three straight wins, a tie, and then another win. Thus its unbeaten streak has reached 42 games in a row, but the win streak ended at 40.

37 — Knappa (Astoria, Ore.)
The Loggers have won two straight Class 2A/1A championships in Oregon, going 24-0 last year and winning the final 13 games of the 2017 season. Knappa opens its season against rival Astoria on March 11. With Argyle tying its game against Ray on Feb. 22, Knappa officially has the longest winning streak, but not the longest unbeaten streak.



26 — Riverdale Baptist (Upper Marlboro, Md.)
Riverdale Baptist did not play in a state playoff last year since it's an independent school. The Crusaders finished the season with 26 straight wins and a No. 3 MaxPreps ranking. They open their regular season March 11 against Annapolis.

26 — Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.)
The Eagles went 26-0 in 2018 and finished ranked No. 2 in the MaxPreps Top 25 rankings. Montverde Academy did not play in the state playoffs, however, since it's an independent school. The Eagles ran their win streak to 27 in a row to begin the 2019 season, but lost to Lake Brantley on Feb. 19.

26 — Newman Catholic (Mason City, Iowa)
Newman Catholic won its second straight Iowa Class 1A state championship in late July, ending a 36-game win streak by Lisbon. The Knights won their last 26 games in a row (40-1 overall) to claim their seventh state title in school history. Since Iowa plays in the summer, Newman Catholic won't begin play until late May.

26 — Page County (Shenandoah, Va.)
After losing a 1-0 decision to Stuarts Draft in the third game of the season, Page ran off 26 wins to capture the Class 2A state championship. The Panthers open their season on March 11 against Madison County.

25 — Almira-Coulee-Hartline (Coulee City, Wash.)
The Warriors claimed the Class 1B state championship last year with a 25-0 record, but won't begin their season until late March.

24 — Greenwood (Ark.)
The Bulldogs lost to Van Buren in mid-March last year and won 24 in a row to claim the Class 6A state championship. Greenwood opens its season this week at the PBR Select tournament.
22 — Loganville (Ga.)
The Red Devils won 22 straight and captured the Class 5A state title in Georgia. Loganville had its streak end in the first game of the season in 2019, when it lost to Winder-Barrow.



21 — Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.)
The Trojans won their third straight state championship last year, beating Charlotte Christian for the NCISAA 3A state title. They put their 21-game win streak on the line March 5 when they open the season against Charlotte Christian

21 — Winters (Calif.)
The Warriors lost just once last year in setting a school record for wins (30) and capturing a Northern Section Division 4 championship. Winters saw its 21-game streak end last week with an extra-inning loss to Armijo, but looks to start a new streak Thursday against Berean Christian.

20 — Maranatha (Pasadena, Calif.)
The Minutemen won their final 20 games of 2018 and captured the Southern Section Division 3 championship. Maranatha ran their streak to 21 in a row to start the season by beating San Dimas, bur their streak ended Feb. 11 with a loss to Los Osos.

20 — New Braunfels Christian Academy (New Braunfels, Texas)
The Wildcats went 20-0 last year to win the Division 5 TAPPs championship. They have not started their season.
