Northfield hasn't had much luck against Southwood recently, but that could start to change on Friday. It'll be Northside v. Southside when the Northfield Norsemen and the Southwood Knights meet at 7:45 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Tuesday, Northfield came up short against Maconaquah and fell 61-54. While losing is never fun, the Norsemen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Braves are ranked 121st).

The losing side was boosted by Tyson Baer, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 16 points and five rebounds. That's the most points he has posted since back in March of 2024. Carter Rodgers was another key player, putting up 12 points.
Meanwhile, Southwood ended up a good deal behind Adams Central on Tuesday and lost 75-58. The Knights have struggled against the Flying Jets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Northfield will have to keep a close watch on Bryce Wilcox and Emery Liddick, a pair of players who had a big impact on Southwood's prior game. Wilcox dropped a double-double with 23 points and ten boards, while Liddick went 6-for-13 en route to 17 points. Wilcox is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Barney, who scored four points and five assists.
Southwood now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Northfield, they now also have a losing record of 9-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Northfield has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Southwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Northfield came up short against Southwood when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 37-32. Can Northfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
