Baseball Recap: Canyon Springs Has No Trouble Against Chaparral

Canyon Springs made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Chaparral, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Canyon Springs blew past Chaparral 13-3 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Kenny Castro was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Castro was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Canyon Springs got a massive performance out of Isaiah Rogers, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave Rogers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cruz Monroy, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one triple.

Canyon Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Canyon Springs' win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7. As for Chaparral, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon Springs will square off against Virgin Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Chaparral, they will head out to face off against Sports Leadership & Management at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
