Softball Recap: Leake Central Comes Up Short

Leake Central extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-11. They lost 16-0 to the Newton County Cougars. That's two games in a row now that the Gators have lost by exactly 16 runs.

As for Newton County, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

For Newton County's part, Lexi Addy made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Addy was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one triple. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Macie McClure looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Shae Jimmie was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Adilyn Vaughn was another key player, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

While Leake Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
