Basketball Game Preview: Salem Hills Skyhawks vs. Orem Tigers

Salem Hills is 2-7 against Orem since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Salem Hills Skyhawks will host the Orem Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Friday, Salem Hills came up short against Maple Mountain and fell 65-57.

Despite the loss, Salem Hills got top-tier performance from Kade Moser, who shot 4-for-7 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Moser has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Elijah Gasser was another key player, putting up six points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Salem Hills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Orem and Timpview (ranked 40th and 46th in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile match on Friday. Orem secured a 55-50 W over Timpview. The victory was familiar territory for the Tigers who have now won eight contests in a row.

Orem pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.9 points over those games. As for Salem Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.

Salem Hills came up short against Orem in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 80-73. Thankfully for Salem Hills, Asher Young (who went 9 of 14 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
