Softball Preview: Linton-Stockton Miners vs. West Vigo Vikings
The Linton-Stockton Miners will square off against the West Vigo Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Linton-Stockton let Terre Haute South Vigo stack five runs on them in the sixth inning on Thursday but luckily Linton-Stockton prevailed anyway. The Miners walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Braves. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Miners considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Meanwhile, West Vigo entered their tilt with South Putnam on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Eagles.
Jaleigh Lindley spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jaycee Elkins was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April. Briley Jones also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
