Preview: Columbiana Clippers vs. Lakeview Bulldogs
The Columbiana Clippers will head out on the road to face off against the Lakeview Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbiana is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
Columbiana can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They breezed by Leetonia on the road to the tune of 69-20. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-9.
Columbiana's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maddox Brown, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Brown continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Less, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
While Lakeview couldn't quite beat Hubbard on Tuesday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 21-point defeat they were dealt on Friday. Lakeview fell just short of Hubbard by a score of 54-51. Lakeview has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lakeview's defeat came about despite a quality game from Kyle Senkowitz, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. Senkowitz is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Hayden Newton was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Lakeview struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Hubbard pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Columbiana is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Lakeview, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-10.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Columbiana have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 43.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Lakeview struggles in that department as they've made 38.9% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
