Baseball Game Preview: Red Mountain Mountain Lions vs. Dobson Mustangs

For the second straight game, Red Mountain will face off against Dobson. Red Mountain will host Dobson at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Red Mountain has seven straight wins, Dobson has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Red Mountain is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Dobson a 16-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Mountain Lions have won five games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddox Loria looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since March 1st.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hagen Wright, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kale Thorson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Red Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dobson only posted an OBP of .125.

Red Mountain pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Dobson, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Red Mountain hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Dobson struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
