Basketball Recap: St. Paul Takes a Loss

St. Paul played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the O'Neill Eagles, falling 72-38. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-16.

Despite the loss, St. Paul still got an impressive performance from Charlee Wegner, who went 8 for 14 on her way to 19 points and four steals. That was a full 50% of St. Paul's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

O'Neill was led to victory by Hannah Hilker and Taylor Young. Hilker went 8 of 17 on her way to 19 points, while Young went 7 of 12 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds. Hilker's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Kallhoff, who had 11 points.

St. Paul has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for O'Neill, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-4.

St. Paul wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 50-46 victory against Loomis on the 28th. As for O'Neill, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-39 win against North Central on the 28th.
