The Carrollton Trojans will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Lexington Minutemen at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Carrollton and Richmond met for a duel on Tuesday where Carrollton prevailed. Carrollton narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Richmond 3-2. The win was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Carrollton had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 21-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-20, 15-8.
Meanwhile, Lexington hadn't done well against Knob Noster recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Lexington skirted past Knob Noster 3-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Minutemen as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Lexington wouldn't go down easily and took Knob Noster into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 16-14.
Lexington found their leader in underclassman Krissa Bertz, who had 22 digs. Those 22 digs set a new season-high mark for Bertz.
Carrollton's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-6-1. As for Lexington, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12-2.
Carrollton took their win against Lexington when the teams last played back in September by a conclusive 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Carrollton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
