The Union City Indians will take on the Ansonia Tigers in a tournament on Saturday.
Union City is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 22 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against South Adams on Thursday. They lost 10-1 to the Starfires. The defeat continues a trend for the Indians in their meetings with the Starfires: they've now lost six in a row.
Gabrielle Ordonez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Ansonia came out on top against Newton Local on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Tigers put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Ansonia also got a great performance from Bre Walker as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Ansonia let Addie Geyer and Miley Walls run wild. Geyer went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles, while Walls went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Geyer has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Avalyn Locke, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Ansonia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The win got Ansonia back to even at 8-8. As for Union City, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Union City hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Ansonia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Union City suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Ansonia when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
