Soccer Game Preview: Glenvar vs. Cave Spring

The Glenvar Highlanders will challenge the Cave Spring Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Glenvar has 13 straight wins, Cave Spring has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Glenvar's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Thursday. Everything went their way against Alleghany as they made off with a 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Glenvar, who have now won 12 games by three goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Cave Spring fell victim to Blacksburg and their airtight defense on Wednesday. They lost 3-0 to the Bruins. While losing is never fun, Cave Spring can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Blacksburg are ranked first).

Glenvar's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 52 goals over those seven contests. As for Cave Spring, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11-1.

Glenvar suffered a grim 5-2 defeat to Cave Spring in their previous matchup back in May of 2018. Can the Highlanders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
