Recap: Tonopah Valley Phoenix vs. River Valley Dust Devils
This season hasn't been kind to the Tonopah Valley Phoenix, who are still winless after their tenth matchup. They suffered a rough 36-15 defeat at the hands of River Valley on Friday. The matchup was a close 12-9 at the break, but unfortunately for Tonopah Valley it sure didn't stay that way.
River Valley found their leader in underclassman Veronica Galvez, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 steals. Another player making a difference was Avery Waldrip, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Tonopah Valley bumped their record down to 0-10 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for River Valley, their win ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tonopah Valley will take on American Leadership Academy - West Foothills at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for River Valley, River Valley and Yuma Catholic will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Yuma Catholic presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than River Valley in Arizona (Yuma Catholic is ranked 145th, while River Valley is ranked 291st).
