Volleyball Recap: Newton Railroaders vs. Salina Central Mustangs
Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Salina Central Mustangs. The Railroaders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Saturday.
While Newton had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-20.
Salina Central found their leader in underclassman Katy Wagner, who had 11 digs.
Newton's loss dropped their record down to 8-23. As for Salina Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-19 record this season.
After both having extra time off, Newton and Arkansas City will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Newton is facing Arkansas City at the right time seeing as Arkansas City is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Salina Central, they will be playing at home against Junction City at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
