Baseball Recap: Redmond Takes a Loss

Redmond lost against Mercer Island back in May of 2018, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Redmond took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mercer Island. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jay Heath put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Brandon Dayberry was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Cavin Bowmer was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Redmond's record now sits at 2-6. As for Mercer Island, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Redmond will square off against Liberty at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mercer Island, they will face off against Hazen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mercer Island's pitchers better be ready for this one: Hazen has averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
