Baseball Recap: Maine East Comes Up Short

Maine East extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-11 in the process. They came up short against the Vernon Hills Cougars, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-5 on Monday.

As for Vernon Hills, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-12. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games.

For Vernon Hills' part, they got a great performance from Robert Miller as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. The Cougars are 2-1 when Miller posts eight or more strikeouts, but 4-11 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Connor Brockway, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nate Dugan, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

While Maine East had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
