Basketball Recap: Los Fresnos Takes a Loss

It was a good run, but Los Fresnos unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 57-36 to the Veterans Memorial Chargers. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 676th, while the Chargers are ranked 177th).

Veterans Memorial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brianna Brackhahn led the charge by putting up 15 points and seven rebounds. Those 15 points gave Brackhahn a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Paola Teran, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 13 points.

Los Fresnos' defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Veterans Memorial, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 26-5.

Los Fresnos will square off against Harlingen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Harlingen will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Los Fresnos surely won't give up without a fight. As for Veterans Memorial, they will take on San Benito at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (San Benito has won three straight at home, while Veterans Memorial won 17 straight on the road dating back to last season), something that'll have to change.
