Softball Recap: Elkhorn's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

After flying high against Wilmot on Tuesday, Elkhorn came back down to earth. The Elks fell just short of the Union Grove Broncos by a score of 6-5 on Thursday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 9, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Veronica Siegler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Marlee Wester was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Ellie Jacobson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Elkhorn's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6. As for Union Grove, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-4.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Elkhorn will take on rival Burlington at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Union Grove is set to challenge their familiar foe Beloit Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
