Softball Game Preview: Eisenhower Eagles vs. Nimitz Cougars

After both having extra time off, the Eisenhower Eagles and the Nimitz Cougars will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field one another at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Eisenhower made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Dekaney, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went Eisenhower's way against Dekaney last Friday as Eisenhower made off with a 15-4 win. Considering the Eagles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Meanwhile, Nimitz got the win against Benjamin Davis last Friday by a conclusive 19-3. That looming 19-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

Josephine Bilbao and Aiyanna Richard did most of the damage at the plate: Bilbao went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six stolen bases, and three runs, while Richard went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those six stolen bases gave Bilbao a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamila Reyna, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Nimitz always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .821. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Nimitz's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-9. As for Eisenhower, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.

Everything went Eisenhower's way against Nimitz when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Eisenhower made off with a 20-5 victory. Will Eisenhower repeat their success, or does Nimitz have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
