Softball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Oakland's Winning Streak

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Oakland nor Stewarts Creek made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Patriots took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Hawks. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Patriots couldn't push the score so high this time.

Taylor Minnick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits.

On the hitting side, Oakland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jada Ellison, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Ellison has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last ten times she's played.

Oakland moved to 24-6-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Stewarts Creek, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 25-6-1.

Looking ahead, Oakland will take on Walker Valley on Friday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight. As for Stewarts Creek, they will face off against East Hamilton on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Red Hawks have won eight straight at home, while the Hurricanes won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
