Baseball Game Preview: Cooper City Cowboys vs. First Baptist Academy Lions

The Cooper City Cowboys will square off against the First Baptist Academy Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

First Baptist Academy will be up against a hot Cooper City squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went Cooper City's way against Golden Gate on Tuesday as Cooper City made off with an 11-1 win. The Cowboys not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 20th.

Devin Heithaus looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.

At the plate, Nick Tubito was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Brian Bovington also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Cooper City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, while First Baptist Academy put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Naples Classical. First Baptist Academy blew past Naples Classical 22-0. Considering the Lions have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

First Baptist Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Cooper City, their record now sits at 9-6.
