Beechwood waltzed into their match on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They skirted past the Newport Wildcats 59-57. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since February 9, 2024.

Despite the loss, Newport had strong showings from James Turner, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards, and Griffin Starks, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Turner also posted five blocks, which is notable because Newport is 5-2 when he posts at least three blocks, but 4-5 otherwise. Yamil Rondon was another key player, putting up nine points and five assists.

Beechwood has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Newport, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-7 record.

Beechwood will take on Dixie Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Dixie Heights' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games. As for Newport, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Newport Wildcats challenge the Bellevue Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
