Baseball Recap: Escondido Cougars vs. Morse Tigers

Escondido had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Morse Tigers 17-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2021.

Ryder Taylor was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Andrew Carrilo was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two triples, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Ace Sanchez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Escondido always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Morse only posted an OBP of .333.

Looking ahead, Escondido will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Oceanside at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Morse, they are headed away from home for the first time to challenge Olympian at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
