Softball Recap: Atlee Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Atlee waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They skirted past the Manchester Lancers 7-5. That's more bragging rights for the Raiders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Sierra Kegley was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Camdyn Metts, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Natalie Sponaugle was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Atlee's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Manchester, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Atlee will square off against Glen Allen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Raiders 3, the Jaguars 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Manchester, they will head out on the road to square off against Midlothian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something the Lancers surely won't give up without a fight.
