The Millington Central Trojans will face off against the Houston Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Millington Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Monday just wasn't the day for Millington Central's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Briarcrest Christian on Monday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Trojans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Houston not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 16-3). Everything went their way against Bartlett as they made off with a 16-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won nine in a row.
Madeleine McClure was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. McClure was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Lindsey Barnes was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Kaylea Howell was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Millington Central has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13-1 record this season. As for Houston, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Millington Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Houston struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
