Baseball Recap: Minnetonka Comes Up Short

Minnetonka fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Prior Lake on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lakers by a score of 2-1. The Skippers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lakers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Mateo Aldecocea was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over eight innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only three hits, the fewest he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, Minnetonka saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Storts, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Minnetonka has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for Prior Lake, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Minnetonka will take on Hopkins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Royals will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Skippers surely won't give up without a fight. Prior Lake does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
