Baseball Recap: De La Salle Picks Up 12th Straight Win at Home

It's playoff time, and De La Salle had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Del Oro Golden Eagles on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Mason Cortez looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Antonio Castro, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Ethan Sullivan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

De La Salle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Oro only posted a batting average of .259.

De La Salle's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Del Oro, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 24-10.

Coming up, De La Salle will be playing at home against St. Mary's at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Del Oro does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
